City / Local | Program Guide

SUMMARY

The report analyzes how reduced immigration and increased deportations starting in 2025 harm the U.S. economy. By restricting the entry of immigrants, who are 80% more likely to found firms than native-born citizens, the U.S. faces a significant decline in new business formation. This "missing firm" gap peaks in the early 2030s and persists for decades, largely driven by the absence of native-born descendants of immigrants who would have become future entrepreneurs. Consequently, aggregate productivity is projected to drop by up to 0.44% by 2052, causing long-term economic losses, particularly in the construction and professional services sectors.

SUMMARY

In this report, MPI provides an overview of the immigrant population in Napa County, including legal status, English proficiency, income, and other factors. Between 2019 and 2023, 21% of Napa residents were foreign-born. The report also highlights the contributions of immigrant workers in the Wine and Hospitality industries, crucial for the local economy, where their impact was estimated at approximately $1.5 billion, representing about 11% of the County’s GDP. Additionally, the findings suggest that the departure of unauthorized immigrants from the US could cause losses of around $366 million to the local economy, while a reduction in the immigrant population would decrease tax revenue by approximately $28 million annually.

Metro/Sub-State Region | Research Report

SUMMARY

This study examines the labor market consequences of heightened ICE enforcement during the second administration of President Trump. It reveals a substantial "chilling effect," causing a 4% reduction in employment among likely undocumented immigrants who remain in the country but fear interacting with authorities. Notably, there is no evidence that these enforcement surges create job opportunities for U.S.-born workers. In fact, U.S.-born men with limited education in affected sectors saw their employment fall by 1.3%. These results suggest that undocumented and local workers are complements, meaning aggressive enforcement reduces overall labor demand.

SUMMARY

Immigrants are essential to the U.S. economy, starting businesses at twice the rate of native-born citizens. This fact sheet highlights how increased immigration enforcement is severely disrupting "Main Street" businesses, with 47% of small business owners reporting negative impacts, including lost revenue and employee shortages driven by fear. Furthermore, 2026 SBA restrictions now bar non-citizen-owned businesses from federal loans, stripping capital from legal residents and Dreamers. Consequently, 89% of owners advocate for bipartisan reforms and pathways to citizenship. To protect local economies, the report urges Congress to pass comprehensive legislation and establish enforcement guardrails to ensure stability.
